Our Organization
Illinois Women’s Institute for Leadership (IWIL) Training Academy prepares and trains Democratic, pro-choice women to run for elected office, seek public appointments, and govern effectively at all levels in Illinois.
Each year, we accept a diverse class of twelve women from around the state into our intensive training program. We provide participants with the expertise and support needed to put together successful campaigns and lead in their communities.
To ensure that qualified participants are included, IWIL Training Academy covers all major program expenses, including hotel accommodations, most meals, and out-of-state travel.
IWIL Training Academy does not endorse or make financial contributions to candidates.
Our Curriculum
Our eight-month training brings together IWIL Training Academy’s class at locations across Illinois and in Washington DC for six multi-day sessions.
- Sessions focus on building the skills needed to run a winning campaign, ranging from communications strategy to advanced fundraising techniques and more.
- We provide extensive opportunities for networking and learning directly from industry experts, leaders, and elected officials at all levels of government.
Mission and Goals
Our driving mission is to prepare Democratic women for success in elected office and leadership positions across Illinois.
Women make up 51% of our state’s population. We know that all Illinoisans will benefit from representation that looks like our communities.
